“Tami has changed my life. She is so warm, empathetic and insightful...”

“...that I’ve discussed things with her that I couldn’t ever imagine opening up to anyone else about. She’s helped me shift negative thinking patterns and also cope with tricky family dynamics that I’d previously felt completely overwhelmed by. Tami goes above and beyond to help her clients and I cannot recommend her enough.”

hi, I’m dr. tami avis.

After 20+ years of clinical practice, I know that change is always possible.

A London Therapist with brown hair wearing a black sweater and denim jeans, standing outdoors in front of yellow leafy bushes, smiling at the camera.

Even when things feel stuck. Even when it’s hard to see a way forward. Even when you’re on the treadmill of daily life.

It’s the one thing I want everyone to know. You can always find ways to cope. You can move through your big(gest) challenges. And you can come out the other side of your struggles.

Whatever your personal goals are, we will work towards them together in therapy.

“He who has a why to live

can bear almost any how”

— Friedrich Nietzsche

Even when life feels uncertain or difficult, a sense of meaning can make small, progressive steps more manageable.

Part of my work is helping you reconnect with that, so you can find a way forward that feels steady, and right for you.

But being told that “change is possible” is rarely enough

a collaborative approach to therapy

Because no two people experience things in the same way. And no challenge is ever as simple as it might look from the outside.

We all have our own stories, complexities, and the things that make us who we are. So when something feels heavy, the work is about understanding what’s actually going on, making sense of patterns, thoughts, and experiences, and identifying what will genuinely help you move forward.

This is exactly how I work with my clients. Collaborative and individualised.

My values

Empathy

Your experience is taken seriously, with time given to understand it fully rather than simplify it.

A genuine, human connection where you don’t need to filter or present a version of yourself.

“Tami is a truly outstanding professional, and she has made a massive difference in my life.”

“I am in my mid-50s, and for over 30 years I have worked in highly demanding environments in financial and legal institutions based on Wall St, in the City of London, and in the Bay Area: I say this only to credentialise my skepticism, cynicism, and sensitive BS detector.

Before I met Tami I expected the universe of therapists to comprise either severe looking men in black turtlenecks asking “and what do You think?”, or women wearing wooden-bead necklaces that “clack” whenever the beads touch, saying “Why don’t you have a good cry?”.

This is not Tami. She is whip smart - and more importantly - street smart, and she has an uncanny ability to unpack the densest of Gordian knots and make it seem easy. But not only is Tami quick, she has the rare ability to make you feel that you’re quick too. She is both inspiring and grounding. I cannot recommend her to you too highly.”

how i became a psychologist

Even at school, I was genuinely curious about how people think, feel, and cope.

And I found people opened up to me.

At 15, a close friend said, “You should be a psychologist, people naturally talk to you.” Little did she know it, but that was one of those moments that shaped the rest of my life!

I went on to study psychology, completing my Doctorate aged 26; a journey that required years of intensive clinical skills training, rigorous research and personal therapy alongside my degree. This shaped not just my professional skills but who I am.

It has been the greatest passion and privilege of mine to become a psychologist and be allowed to enter my clients’ inner worlds. I never take for granted what an honour that is and I remain as interested in people today, as I was when I was at school.

  • “Tami has been a genuine source of strength in my life and an incredible pillar of support during times that felt overwhelming, scary and frightening. I am so grateful for her guidance, compassion, wisdom, and genuine care and I cannot recommend her highly enough.”

  • “She takes the time to genuinely get to know you as an individual. Nothing about [Tami’s] approach feels generic, scripted or routine - she tailors everything to who you are, what you’re going through, and what you individually need from each session and as a whole.”

  • “Tami got me to a place now where I can manage my anxiety and am as happy as can be. She’s changed my subconscious to a place where I automatically am positive and optimistic and don’t let my anxiety get me down. She is the biggest support.”

Since 2019, I’ve worked independently in private practice, supporting clients through long-term, trusted relationships.
